3. Pinched finger badly while putting umbrella down
4. Slammed hand in folding table

Do Any Of You Have Bad Automatic Behavior, And How Do You Deal With It ? What Combats It ?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Houston, TX

Automatic behavior is when your doing something and go into REM for a period ,when you come out, you can’t remember what you did, even though you still keep walking and talking. And no one can tell that no one is home unless you do something really stupid. It can last seconds or several minutes to like an hour. It’s just like sleep walking. It can happen once, or 100 times a day. You think it’s because your memory is bad, but it’s little black outs while you’ve slid into REM. I can’t find much… read more

Does Anyone Go Through Feelings Of Your Mind And Brain Being Frozen?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Kenosha, WI

Every afternoon I go through this period of feeling like my brain isn't working right. I'm aware of all my surroundings, but feel completely focused. It's so hard to explain. Even the inside of my head feels different. Almost like out of body experiences. When that happens I'm not able to function well. I continuesly fall asleep. I just can't talk either, cause I don't remember what were taking about and all of a sudden I start talking about something way off the subject at hand. This has been… read more

Teenager With Narcolepsy

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have a teenager with narcolepsy who is really struggling. He has had averse reactions to medications and has a hopeless attitude. I can see how much he is struggling and suffering. When I try to help him and make suggestions, he gets angry with me and frustrated. He has a lot of supports in place but he is in the worst place right now. How do I support him and support myself at the same time? It is so hard to be a mother and feel this helpless.

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member

It sounds like he is suffering from depression also. That needs to addressed so he can feel better. Depression makes you tired during the day also complicating narcolepsy.

I Have Narcolepsy. My Medication Isn't Working Anymore.

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Fitzgerald, GA

I was prescribed provigil 200 mg 2 x day 16 years ago. It worked great for 13 years. About 3 years ago around 2 pm my medication had wore off. So I started taking 3 tablets a day (600) mg. So I had medication for 20 days and suffered the last 10 days because I didn't think my doctor would prescribe 3 a day
Now my problem is provigil tolerance. One day it works and most days it doesn't. Has any one that has taken this for a long period had this to happen to them? Any suggestions on what I need… read more

Does Anyone Have Any Advice For Living With Unsupportive People?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Atkins, IA

I am currently living with my parents because I can not afford to live on my own. There is no other options for me right now but I just do not know how much longer I can put up with my mom. She never has understood and I don't know if she ever will.

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member

Ask Her if She would be willing to go to the Dr. with You. Maybe he/she can explain the situation.
