Why Is Narcolepsy Treatment Focused On Stimulants Instead Of Regulating Sleep Cycle?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Trenton, FL

From what I understand about type 2 narcolepsy, interrupted sleep cycles seems to be the central issue. I was prescribed modafinil which gave me the worst headache I have ever experienced and seemed to get more severe with every dose. I completely stopped sleeping and after a week, I stopped taking it. I can't sleep more than a few hours without waking up and I never feel rested. Why wouldn't I be prescribed something that helps me sleep?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member

I swear by my armodafinil, but psychotropic meds will always be different for different people. They are coming out with more meds that may be worth trying. And pill cutters. Everyone is different.

I used shock clock to wake up. You can modulate the shock strength and frequency and set alarms that won’t stop shocking you until you do jumping jacks. Even then, I will habituate you it and start… read more

Glorious Dream

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Colorado Springs, CO

Due to my narcolepsy, I have bad dreams and occasional nightmares EVERY night. They are the bane of my life and I hate going to sleep. They color my days with pain. Last night I had an incredible dream of taking a wandering drive with Tim (who is deceased) that turned into a rural heaven. The single lane dirt road was lined with heavy growth on both sides, mass profusions of lilacs, hydrangeas of all colors, calla lilies, white striped with red clematis dangling from the tree, tall delphiniums… read more

Be careful what you ask for! My deceased mother was the center of one of my dreams. It was so real that when I woke up, I got dressed to meet her and my sister (she lives 1,500 miles from me!) for… read more

Does Anyone Sleep Over 13 Hours? Sleep Or No Sleep Has No Winner For Narcolepsy!

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Athens, TX

Since diagnosed with Narcolepsy with cataplexy in 2018, I would sleep for a total of 16-18 hours over the weekend just to get rested up for the upcoming week. Now I've been sleeping approximately 10 hours if I had a day off. I still find myself dragging myself out of bed just to eat and try to be a human for a day. Does anyone hold a extensive amount of hours sleeping after working full time, raising kids and trying to just make it through the week?

Can Anyone Tell Me What Causes Narcolepsy? Are We Just Born With It Or Did Something Cause It?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Springfield, MO

As a teen I was told I suffer from CFS (Chronic fatigue syndrome), brought on by being anemic and two bouts of mono. At age 62 now, I wonder if it was narcolepsy the whole time. There was no testing for this back then.
