Is There Anything That Helps You To Lead A Normal(er) Life?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Carolina, RI

Have had a diagnosis of narcolepsy with cataplexy for about 10 years. While sleep was always important to me, I never knew it was narcolepsy until I started collapsing at work. I was embarrassed at what was happening and withdrew from life to continue to hide it. I did my research and suspected cataplexy. A couple of doctor visits later it was confirmed. What to do about it? Doctor prescribed Xyrem at night. Took some getting used to, but it helps with sleep. Crazy, a narcoleptic needs… read more

Thoughts / Success/ Failure With Wakix?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Greenwood, IN

I started Wakix about 3 weeks ago. I can't take the full dose due to a medication interaction with another med I take. I think it's making a difference. I do feel more "awake" throughout the day, instead of only getting the normal 1-3 hrs of feeling "ok, kind of awake". I take it as soon as I wake up ( decide to get out of bed) along with my normal 20 mg Adderall. With Adderall alone it's more of "my body is forced awake but my brain is far from it" type of awake. The only downside, if it's… read more

What Narcolepsy Meds Work For You?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Quakertown, PA

I've tried almost all of the narcolepsy meds and nothing worked. I'm on Adderall 20mg 3 times a day... which barely work all day, and I take Trazodone 150mg at night (which work great) to sleep.

I take it, it helps some. It is hard to tell about just the Wakix because I also take my Adderall at the same time.

I Also tried the Wakix not on a clinical trial and it did nothing for me. It was like I was not taking medication at all.
