What Kind Of Treatment Are You Doing For CATAPLEXY?
I asked my doctor about treatment for cataplexy, and she said I’d need to see a neurologist and start from there. While I’m waiting, I was wondering what kind of treatment you guys do??
I currently don't take anything for my cataplexy. But what I do try to do if I feel an episode coming on, I get up and move around a bit especially if I've been sitting for too long. I am also getting into the habit of taking naps. Exercise definitely helps with the cataplexy and also knowing what time of day you're usually triggered. i know for me personally, I get sleepy around 1-2 pm. So I try to keep myself active.
I am taking xyrem to treat my cataplexy and narcolepsy. It is the only thing that had had any effect on the cataplexy which used to be a constant issue for me. I would get wobbly knees and then be asked if I was drunk by anyone that would see the dip and recovery before I could fall. Xyrem is very expensive and insurance will require a prior authorization. At one point they said I would need an evaluation by an neurologist which became a huge fiasco due to most neurologists do not treat narcolepsy or cataplexy eventually my insurance provider relented and my sleep specialist was given the green light to continue prescribing the xyrem. There is a certain protocol required before you can receive a shipment from the specialty pharmacy.
I do Lexapro 20 mg everyday wipes out all the symptoms. Except if I get really angry I suffer for days.
I was put on a low dose of a blood pressure medication. I'm sorry I was taken off it because it made me dizzy but it also help me from having dreams. It helped a lot
There is nothing you can naturally do except try not too have extreme emotions like laughing, anger and sadness. I do know anti depressents help.
