Can Sex Orgasum For Women With Type 1.cause A Cataplexy Event?
Yes. It's called Orgasmolepsy aka Cataplexy due to Orgasm.
It's unknown how many NT1 have that, since it is rarely asked by Doctors (and I'm guessing the majority of them don't even know that it exists... much less what it looks/feels like).
Also, a PwNT1 might not even know that their orgasms (some or all) are ''anormal'': which was my case, until I stumbled upon the subject when reading a girl's publication on Facebook....
But overall, orgasmolepsy makes sense: orgasms are super emotional (well, there are a loooot of feelings 😊) and really personal (most people don't discuss/compare their orgasms with others).
As for me, i realized that years ago, i had daily typical cataplexy (and maybe even some atypical) until my medications were changed.
But i was experiencing anorgasmia (no orgasm) for years before and after. Until one of my boyfriend really tried and found (quite rapidly) how to make me come (and as much as he wanted).
Obviously, my medications were also different at that time (although i still had the same classic drug classes: sleep aid, stimulants, antidepressants).
However, since him (and then about 1.5 years later, many big switched in my medications, but still the same classes), i didn't have orgasms.... or so i thought.
Now i realize that it might not just be because of his 'instrument' and techniques, but most likely because of the drugs... which might be further controlling my cataplexy when intimate......
Facts about my situation:
- my NT1 symptoms all started in May 2006 (a few months before any mental health issues/diagnosis (aka 1st MDD) and almost a year before drugs to help those).
- I'm awaiting a new sleep study in a couple of weeks (i had always been tested with all my pills, except the stimulants when doing MSLT)
- I only stumbled across and started researching what is Narcolepsy (and Cataplexy) this February 2024.
And now, about EVERYTHING in my life/experiences makes sense and can be explained by NT1.
I.e. why no drugs nor combinations of drugs were ever good enough to bring me back to my pre-2006 energy/focus/sleep ; why i was given many other mental health diagnoses as the years went by (including my now 3rd MDD); etc.
And i even know why my previous sleep clinics didn't detect my NT1...
My NT1 is turning 18 years old this month (May 2024).
And I'm currently 36 yo.
Hopefully, my sleep/nap test will accurately reflect my struggles and I'll finally get the proper diagnosis ... which is undoubtedly NT1.
And then, I'll be treated accordingly!
Simply put yes
Don’t know as love by myself, lol
Honestly I'm not sure but I don't think it's not possible.i guess it depends on your triggers
