When Adderall Wears Off.
Has anyone experienced falling asleep between doses of Adderall? When my Adderall is in its highest effectiveness time it works. But my narcoleptic symptoms have become worse at other times. My psychiatrist says this is a clue pointing t word diagnosis.
I uncontrollably fall asleep.
I have been on adderall for over 20 years and I go through phases were it just doesn’t work but I don’t know why. I have to ride out that time until it starts working again. I wish I knew why that happens. I’m sorry you are experiencing this, I know how frustrating it is.
I also fall asleep easily with adderall if I don't keep myself engaged either physically or mentally. I think, for me, the sunosi and adderall help me be at the point where I can initiate activity better and that's what helps me focus and stay awake better.. by being able to do things. But when I stop, I can and will fall asleep in seconds.. sometimes for 1/2:hour, sometimes fir 2. I'm usually quite groggy and disoriented after these sleep attacks or naps, especially the longer ones, and it throws the rest of my day off because then I go through the whole process of having to fully wake up again, which can sometimes take 2 hours. I have also noticed that my body works differently on different brands of generic adderall. I was doing best with Teva brand, which apparently is no longer manufactured. My pharmacy gave me Mallinckrodt adderall which did absolutely nothing and I asked them for another brand. I now get Alvogen which works better than Mallinckrodt but not as well as Teva. I know studies say generous are all the same, but this is the 3rd med I found a difference with. When I was taking Armodafinil, name brand Nuvigil worked best, I had a sample from my doc and then a 30 day manufacturer coupon, but my insurance wouldn't cover it. I can't remember which generic brands I had, but one definitely worked better than the other and I requested that from my pharmacy. The other med that works differently for me and shows in my bloodwork is Synthroid vs generic levothyroxine. The generic just doesn't hold my levels steady at all. I hope something in here was helpful!
I have to be very careful because I can easily fall sleep on stimulants, including adderall. I have to make a concerted effort not to doze off, especially within the first hour or so after I take it. And even after it reaches peak effectiveness and I’m at maximum alertness, I still have to be on my toes or else I’ll fall asleep given the right conditions.
Additionally, I also experience occasions when it has no effect on me whatsoever. I wish it worked consistently for all of us but the truth is, finding out from you guys that I’m not the only one who experiences that ordeal is a relief 😮💨
THAT is what Narcolepsy can do to you! I would talk to your sleep doctor about the efficacy of the Adderal. How long have you been on it? Sometimes, we develop a tolerance for a medication and it doesn't work anymore. There are usually a few other medications that can take the place of something you have been on for a long time. Even if you haven't been on the Adderal long, if it doesn't work the way it should, it may nor be the best choice for you!
Before I was diagnosed, my boss liked to have one 7am meeting weekly. That's where I started having my first sleep attacks, although I had no knowledge of anything Narcoleptic at the time. I just knew that regardless of what I did, I could not keep my eyes open. My boss would see me asleep and tap to wake me up, asking if the meeting was too boring for me! That was awful.
Know that you are not alone! Keep in touch with your sleep doctor between appointments if necessary. Hopefully, he / she can suggest a solution that will help!
