Does Anyone Else Get Sleep Attacks But Don't Fall Asleep?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have narcolepsy with cataplexy and I would say moderate to severe eds, I get sleep attacks but I don't go to sleep. I fight it so hard and try to stay moving. Also I have racing thoughts that keep me from relaxing very much. Yet I feel like I could fall asleep at any moment. It is so crazy! Please let me know if you experience anything like this.

Yes, I get them all the time. Usually when I just wake up or after my meds wear down. In my mind, I'm just sitting there in deep thought but to the outside world, it probably looks like I'm sleeping. It only lasts for maybe a minute or two and I'm completely aware of my surroundings. I saw an article on this site that described them as micro sleep attacks. They seem to happen more during the week when I get less than 6 hours of sleep and I'm pushing myself beyond the limit of my meds.

Hi. Yes I get this to where sometimes I feel very tired and fatigued but I lay down and can only rest not actually fall asleep. Could be the meds keeping me awake while my body just can’t keep up?

Did xywav help you right away? I tried it one night but I was up every single hour so I just didn't take it anymore. Decided I was a freak of nature and now just take Adderall to get through my days.
