Anyone Suffering From The Stimulant Shortage?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was diagnosed in 2015 when I was 23, but I have had symptoms my whole life. I get cataplexy when I laugh really hard but otherwise it's not bad at all. I also live with Bipolar disorder (recently diagnosed) and am trying to find a better balance of medications.

I have been taking lisdextamfetamine (vyvanse) for years but when I started taking medication for bipolar, it stared feeling less effective. I want to find a better combination, but I am so anxious about changing my meds, but with the… read more

Be thankful that your insurance covers what it does. My insurance company decided that it was not medically necessary for me to be on medication for narcolepsy. Mind you, they paid for my prescriptions for years prior to making the decision to stop paying anything. I have to use Goodrx or some other discount card to get my meds. I pay over $100 per month for 2 prescriptions (modafinal and Adderall).

What gets me is that your insurance company dictates what you can and can't have without ever seeing you. Your doctor, who you have a report with and who sees you regularly recommends what you need, and yet it's totally out of control what your insurance company does.

I've been paying out of pocket off insurance for my narcolepsy meds for the past 10 years.

YES! Also wondering how insurance companies can decide how much medication I (we) need?!? They only cover half of the amount my doctor prescribes. Especially when insurance changes, however, my condition does not/has not/will not!?.! 🤔 Just does not seem right to me.

I am also on vyvanse, I always have to wait a few day without my meds for the pharmacy to have them in stock . It gets frustrating to have your ability to function rely on medication. I have been offered to try the new wakix medication but I am also nervous to change meds. Good luck Olivia!
