It Kills Me Not To Work. If You Have 4 Letters From 4 Different Doctors Saying I Shouldn't Work Why Ain't That Enough?
Hi Barb, the article is right on and I might add that if you have a very
known disease or condition it is still that difficult to get Disability benefits. Most applications on the first go around are denied. You must reapply. And yes it could take 2- 3 years for even the best cases.Narcolepsy as pointed out in the article is
not listed so you must put "other" and most people don't really know what Narcolepsy is . they have an idea, such as " you fall asleep a lot ' You should try to get more rest at night". Even the doctor at the hospital when I had an accident was so ignorant on this disease. I had sleep walked into a glass door and lost the sight of
my left eye. The Doctor said ," if you know that you sleep walk why would you get out of bed"....HUH? he continued on that I should make a discision that no matter what I stay in my bed. Of course we all know that there is no discision in sleep walking. I told the Doctor that he should call my sleep specialist doc to help him under stand the disease. I told him that he was way off in telling me this and that he could leave now. My point is very few people understand this disease including doctors. If Social security does approve it they will pay you from when you first applied. Many people are successful using a lawyer specializing in disability benefits. If they think that your case has merit they will work for a percentage of your award. I do not know from when you first apply or the first year you would have to find out by interviewing a lawyer. I hope this gives you some light on the subject.
Thank you! I have thought of looking into this as I am a nurse and I fear for my license. And have had to change how I continue nursing and I don't feel that any other job will compare.
Thank you.
