Thoughts / Success/ Failure With Wakix?
I started Wakix about 3 weeks ago. I can't take the full dose due to a medication interaction with another med I take. I think it's making a difference. I do feel more "awake" throughout the day, instead of only getting the normal 1-3 hrs of feeling "ok, kind of awake". I take it as soon as I wake up ( decide to get out of bed) along with my normal 20 mg Adderall. With Adderall alone it's more of "my body is forced awake but my brain is far from it" type of awake. The only downside, if it'sā¦ read more
It does amaze me at all the different people who don't even have degrees in the respective fields they have a say over. Narcolepsy alone is no condition to play with or take lightly yet its so very often underdiagnosed and dismissed.
My doctor's office called me yesterday and I had to by and sign a form for the Wakix payment assistance program. They'll be in touch with me to set this up.
Amanda, the one I had to go through is called Panther rareRx. My Dr said Wakix has to go through another type of pharmacy, not your local normal one, because they monitor it and have all kinds of special things available with it. It takes longer to get it all set up, but they handle co pay assistance, auto refills, 24 hr patient assistance, etc. I had to do it that way last time I was on it as well. Now that I'm on the mid size dose regularly (I can't go up to the full normal dose) I'm starting to have some side effects. I've been on it for a month or so. I didn't remember why I quit taking it last time, I think it was because I didn't have the Adderall with it and it didn't help quick enough for me to be able to function, but it may have also been because of the side effects. I really wish I could remember. Brain fog/memory loss is one of my hardest effects of Narcolepsy.
The specialty pharmacy that it has to go through actually just told me I had a $0 copay. I'm not sure why and didn't really ask. I have insurance through my husband's work and this is the first time I've ever had no copay at all. All my other meds have a $10-$20 copay. How can an insurance company not recognize Narcolepsy like that!? That is completely insane! Insurance companies have WAY to much power with people's health! I've had them tell me I can't have the dose the dr has prescribed, and certain brands they won't cover, but there's always been another type of med with the same result or I can use GoodRx on somethings.
I used wakix for about a year , starting off with the smallest dose and slowly going up , personally it didn't do anything for me at all
