Hey, Does Anyone On Here Receive PIP Payment For Help?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

So I have applied for PIP three times now, once on my own, once with help from Narcolepsy UK and this last time with help from a disability service local to myself. I struggle to work full time, I've had to give up a second job because it was dangerous for me to work. And this current job I've reduced my hours. Like most of us I am mobile and can do things but struggle, I can drive with my meds but struggle, I feel we fall into a crack in-between being well and disabled to a lot of people. I am… read more

I am currently awaiting a tribunal for my PIP claim (applied for DLA when diagnosed in 2008 but got refused and haven’t bothered trying again until now) just the process of the form was so much, then the call etc and all their report kept repeating was ‘I manage to work and look after my 2 year old so must be fine!’ I work 6 1/2 hours over 2 weeks and that’s becoming more and more difficult. My 2 year old is inside most of the time because I can’t risk/cope outside with her, barely do anything all day because she drains me and I am apparently fine. Have also applied to get limited capability for work for universal credit and their form seems bigger. I am literally going to print my original PIP form and add it in then answer minimally. If any of these people bothered to read up properly on Narcolepsy (Type 1 for me with all 5 main symptoms!) then maybe they would give a different answer. But I totally understand how you feel, I don’t want to be stuck inside doing nothing but trying to stay awake all day but I should at least have this recognised and receive the help available without such a fight. Did you fight your claims to appeal stages? I read that almost all claims similar to what ours would be are refused every step of the way but almost always granted at tribunal stage, you would think that would be something they learn from to but that would be too easy!
