How To Convince My School Teachers, Principal And Other Staff That My Condition Is In Fact Real And Making My Daily Life Harder.

My doctor wrote my school a not explaining my situation, and that I need small breaks during the day and to get excused from stuff like public speaking because that triggers my anxiety and panic attacks which also triggers my cataplexy, but the school doesn't care, they say I don't need any special accommodations, I feel so angry and hurt by this because it just feels like they are laughing in my face and calling me a liar for asking for help

The school has to follow those accommodations by law , they could get in big trouble by not following. I would remind them of this law .

Also since they say no special accommodations are needed I would request they reconsider and mention to them that narcolepsy is a disabling disability that affects aspects of your daily life which is why it’s recognized by the ADA in which employers must provide accommodations to people living with narcolepsy.

Should these options not help you could always consult with a lawyer (many can be free consults) and see if they are willing (and if it’s a good idea) to have them write a letter on your behalf. Would probably cost you about $100 or so for their time.

Good luck, I hope you get the support you need.

In College? They should have an accommodations office or person who handles student accommodations. I would seek them out in order to get your accommodations put in place. It may be Office of Disability Services- request a meeting with the director or the ODS [Office of Disability Services] representative, and you usually have to educate them about narcolepsy because 9 times out of 10 they will be clueless about your accommodation needs. Then you find out about how notifying professors are handled and what your responsibilities as a student are and then you discuss helpful accommodations.
Here’s the article I found that explains this and other available accommodations

If in high school request a 504 plan to provide you with accommodations you may need to request an evaluation first to get the process started.

I am so sorry to hear that.

That's awful! I don't think the school can just ignore a doctor's note?!?
