How Do You Deal With Sleep Paralyses?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Shippensburg, PA

Since developing narcolepsy two years ago, I've also been plagued by some nasty sleep paralyses. No hallucinations, thankfully, but there are mornings where I wake up, hit my alarm, and then get trapped in this sleep-like trance where I'm fully concious of my surroundings, but I can't move for 45 minutes to an hour. If someone shakes my shoulder, that breaks me out of my paralyses, but how can I ask for help if I can't even move? How can I help myself? I've missed so many classes and work shifts… read more

Has Anyone Experienced Really Negative Reactions To Stimulates After Being On Wakix That Lasts Even After You Stop Taking It?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Montclair, CA

I don't know what is going on with me, after trying wakix for the 3rd or 4th time with different combinations, only to have negative side effects 2+ months after starting I've given up trying to make it work.

This issue is after each try those negative side effects last far longer then I think they should, what happens is any type of stimulant (Adderall, nuvigil, focalin even caffeine) causes negative side effects to my body I feel like I have sinus pressure and my neck and abdomen are… read more

Has Anybody Had Better Results With WAKIX Vs. Combination Of SUNOSI And XYWAV?

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Ada, OK

I am currently taking SUNOSI during the day and tried to switch to WAKIX because of my cataplexy and sleep paralysis. My insurance would not approve WAKIX until I tried XYWAV so I started XYWAV. I find it almost ridiculous that XYWAV is twice nightly dosing! My anxiety is worse and affecting my overall sleep because half the time I can't get that second dose accomplished between 1-2 am.

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member

BrettHansen, can you supply a couple of details for how Xywav changed your life?.. I start it soon.

Microsleep While Eating

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Florida, NY

Hi guys been awhile since I've posted. I've had increasing trouble swallowing while eating, I thought it was something else like muscle weakness from a neuro issue or something. But now I'm thinking maybe it's narcolepsy microsleep episodes. I haven't started any treatment yet because I have trouble swallowing (pills especially) but I need to try treatment because I'm going to literally starve to death if I keep having these issues while eating. Here is what it feels like, 1st I'm tired all the… read more

Narcolepsy Minus Cataplexy. It Took Almost 40 Years For A Board Certified Sleep Specialist To Treat Me Appropriately.

A MyNarcolepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭
Denver, CO

Has anyone else been in this situation? I have been laughed at and treated with the attitude that I am drug seeking. My symptoms showed up in Junior High School. I was almost 50 when I received my first Rx for generic Ritalin
My mother was diagnosed in her early 50’s, after coping most of her life with these issues. Is it any better these days? The diagnosis part!??
Thank you. I am looking forward to finding out more.

PS: My mother had the same situation with the diagnosis w/o… read more
